Welcome to the Safer Hartlepool and Pride in Hartlepool Sunflower Power Campaign. We want to make Hartlepool a safe place to live and work and we also want to make it a brighter place to be too!
The search is on for Hartlepool’s tallest sunflower. The competition is open to anyone living or working in the town so you can enter as an individual or part of a group. As long as the sunflower is grown in Hartlepool from our seeds it can be in the competition. It can be grown in the ground or in a pot so get planting!
How to Measure your Sunflower
Measure the sunflower in centimetres from the tip of the tallest petal along the stalk, following any curve, to the bottom of the stalk as it enters the soil.
We need to know how high your sunflower is by the closing date of Friday 11th September. Register your details using the form attached, if you are under 16 years of age you will need an adult to sign the form.

There are four competition categories. Tallest sunflower grown in:
- the workplace
- a school
- the home
- a community space

REMEMBER
Your sunflower will grow as the weather gets warmer but take a moment to think about crime prevention in the home and garden.
During the Spring and Summer months walk-in burglaries are more common so please remember to:
- Keep doors and windows locked
- Make sure your shed is padlocked
- Make sure valuables and tools are secured and property marked
- Consider getting a shed alarm
- Take a few minutes to check your boundary is secure, that fences and hedges have no gaps in them that can be used for people to gain access to your garden
- A dusk til dawn light is a useful addition to light up your garden and you don’t need to remember to turn it on
