What is neighbourhood policing?
In April 2006, Hartlepool was chosen as the Cleveland Police pilot area for neighbourhood policing following successful work to engage the community and other agencies in the Burbank area of the town.
Neighbourhood policing allows officers to be visible in communities and be dedicated to resolving neighbourhood issues on a ward and area basis.
The programme has been successful in the town because it is much more than just local police driving it forward.
It is about partner agencies coming together to solve problems in the long-term and not just ‘sticking a plaster’ over a situation and hoping it goes away.
As a resident how can I benefit from neighbourhood policing?
If you have any issues concerning the area that you live that don’t require immediate emergency assistance you can contact your dedicated ward officers.
A single point of contact number – 01429 235811 – was launched so that local residents could find out who their officers are, whether they are on shift, and how to contact them.

Joint Action Groups
Joint action groups (JAGS) were formed in response to the neighbourhood policing model to bring agencies together and look at solutions to ongoing problems.
Action plans with set priorities are developed to decide what agencies can do together to make lives better for local residents.
Chaired by the three neighbourhood managers, the North, South, and Central JAGS also provide funding to improve community safety or to pay for equipment that can be used to go towards helping to solve an issue.
Previously JAG funding has helped to pay for cycles for Cleveland Fire Brigade officers, a crime prevention schools project, and CCTV.
